The Dunedin Youth Jazz Festival (DYJF) is an annual celebration of the jazz made by young people in our city and consists of a competition for Big Bands and Small Combos, a workshop with our adjudicator, and a showcase concert featuring award winning groups, the Dunedin Youth Jazz Orchestra and a professional ensemble.

We are pleased to announce that the adjudicator for the 2022 festival will be Gwyn Reynolds, director of the Musical Arts program at Ara Institute of Canterbury. The key dates for the 2022 Festival are as follows:
- A competition for High School Big Bands and Small Combos (for players under 25) on Friday 19 August at the Otago Boys’ High School Auditorium
- A workshop with tutors from Ara Institute on Saturday 20 August at Hanover Hall
- A showcase concert on Saturday 20 August at Hanover Hall.
Entries for the competition section of the 2022 Festival are due by 8 July. The cost for registration is $10 per player. Please email dyjfestival@gmail.com for further information about registration.
